Emilie Jean, lecturer for the Réunion des Musées Nationaux, shares with memento a few words about the exhibition Icônes Américaines, Chefs-d’œuvre du SFMOMA et de la Collection Fisher au Grand Palais (American Icons, masterworks from SFMOMA and the Fisher collection at the Grand Palais), which diptyque is proud to be supporting.

As a museum closes down for renovations and/or extensions, its collection goes on tour.

The Grand Palais will be hosting a part of the San Francisco Museum of Art collection – paintings, sculptures and designs.

This exhibition will also include collections belonging to philanthropists, Doris and Donald Fisher, who own one of the greatest private collections in the world. Previously displayed in their company’s headquarters, it will now be part of the outstanding SFMOMA collection as of 2016.

The Grand Palais exhibition is the opportunity for both collections to be seen together!

They mainly contain works from American and European artists who started their career during the sixties and the seventies – most of whom are still working.

Whether major stars or lesser known artists in France, so far fourteen post-World War II American artists’s work have taken up spring residence in Paris – Alexander Calder, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Ellsworth Kelly, Cy Twombly, Philip Guston, Richard Diebenkorn, etc.
